I first met Maureen Edgecumbe in 2007. At that stage Maureen was painting landscapes.
Over the years she has progressed as an artist and moved on to paint portrait and figure work. What stands out clearly for me in her artistic style is the portrayal of her subject’s characters. She seems to have an empathy and almost spiritual understanding coupled with an infectious enthusiasm and passion for her art. She combines these elements with dignity and empathy.
Maureen Edgecumbe seems to be on an inspired path of learning, discovery and teaching. I am sure the South African art scene will see a lot more of her talent in the future.
